CultureHop: Susan Wick Studio with David B. Smith

This week, Culture Club Members are headed to Susan Wick’s Studio at Z Wick Place in the RiNo Arts District. For more than six decades, Denver-based artist Susan Wick (born 1938 in Madison, Wisconsin) has made art without inhibition. Driven by a relentless curiosity,

Wick studies life and people, she is the ‘maker of things.’ Colorful and energetic, her works are imbued with personal meaning and underlying narratives inspired by current events of her life and the world.

Many of her paintings contain pairs, and those with single figures often have companion paintings. She works in clay, textiles, yarn and found objects as well.

The characters in her art are sometimes between human and animal and frequently androgynous. Creating genderless dramas and inventing new species with her imagination. Wick paints a world that is anything but lonely.
